Lip Filler

Lips are highly vascular and tend to swell more than other areas. A first treatment often looks larger and slightly uneven in the first days. A traveler who plans to be photographed, or who flies soon after, needs to allow time for this.

How it works

A small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel is injected to add volume, define the border or improve symmetry. Because lips move constantly, the product chosen is usually soft and flexible. The doctor often starts conservatively and builds up gradually. Results last several months to about a year and vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • Thin or flat lips
  • Mild asymmetry
  • Soft definition of the border
  • Visitors who accept a few days of swelling for a subtle change

The treatment day

  1. Discussion of shape. You and the doctor talk about size and proportion with your face, and agree on a modest goal for the first session.
  2. Numbing. Numbing cream is left on the lips for a period, and the product often contains local anesthetic as well.
  3. Injection. Small amounts are placed with a fine needle or cannula, checking symmetry as the doctor goes.
  4. Initial swelling. Expect firmness and puffiness for two to five days. Cold packs help, and the lips soften as the swelling goes down.

Aftercare

  • Use cold packs wrapped in a cloth in short sessions on the first day.
  • Avoid pressing, massaging, kissing or hot drinks while numb.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for about two days.
  • Sleep with your head raised for a night or two.
  • Use a lip balm, and avoid dental work for a couple of weeks unless cleared by the doctor.

Things to know first

  • Swelling, bruising, lumps and asymmetry are common early.
  • Vascular occlusion is rare but serious; severe pain, white or dusky lip skin or spreading discoloration needs immediate care.
  • Cold sore history may need preventive medicine, as injections can trigger an outbreak.
  • Overfilling can look unnatural; modest amounts are often safer for a first time.
  • Not suited to pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infection or product allergy.

Planning lip filler around a Seoul trip

Book it near the start of the trip. The first two or three days bring the most puffiness, and a small touch-up is often considered after about two weeks, so an early treatment leaves room for both. If you want the result for a particular event, count backward by at least ten days.

Practical details matter. Plan soft, easy meals for the first day because numb lips are easy to bite, and keep spicy foods and hot soups for later. Because cold sore outbreaks are common after lip injections, tell the doctor about any history before you travel.

Lip Filler: common questions

Will my lips look natural the next day?

Often not. Swelling usually makes them look larger and firm for a few days. The shape tends to look more natural after about a week.

Can I wear lipstick afterward?

Wait until any needle marks have closed, usually a day or so, and use clean products. Ask the doctor about your own case.

Can I get lip filler on my last day?

It is possible but usually not ideal. You will fly while swollen, with no chance of a check visit or touch-up.
