XERF

XERF is a multi-frequency monopolar RF system by Cynosure Lutronic; this page explains its role in trip planning.

How it works

XERF, from Cynosure Lutronic, is a monopolar radiofrequency platform that works at more than one frequency, 2 MHz and 6.78 MHz. Tissue responds differently to each frequency, which allows a practitioner to vary how the energy is distributed in the skin and underlying layers. As with other monopolar RF, heat is generated in the tissue as the current passes toward a return pad.

Good to know

  • Multi-frequency designs give the practitioner additional options, but the plan still hinges on your skin and goals.
  • A session is a series of passes with temperature checks, so timing varies with the treated area.
  • Temporary flushing or warmth is the typical immediate response.
  • People with pacemakers or similar implants should say so at the consultation.

What a XERF session means for your travel days

Set aside a block of time that includes cooling down, rather than assuming a quick drop-in. After leaving, you can stroll or shop, ideally in shade.

As results develop over weeks, the follow-up conversation can happen by message after you return home if the clinic offers that, though in-person checks remain preferable.

XERF: common questions

Why do frequencies matter?

Lower and higher frequencies can distribute heat differently. Your doctor chooses settings, so the numbers matter less than the plan.

Can I have it on arrival day?

It's wiser to rest and have a consultation first.

Does it hurt?

Many people feel heat. Intensity differs, and the doctor can adjust.
