Spectra
Spectra, from Lutronic, is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser; this page looks at its sessions in the context of a Seoul visit.
How it works
Spectra is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser made by Lutronic. Q-switching releases energy in very short nanosecond pulses, which can break up pigment or tattoo ink at 1064 nm and, with a frequency-doubled mode, at 532 nm. Lower energy used over a larger area is common in toning-style protocols. A carbon-coated skin method is another use, in which the laser interacts with a topical layer.
Good to know
- Low-energy toning sessions often cause only light flushing, while tattoo settings cause whitening, pinpoint bleeding, or crusting.
- Pigment concerns such as melasma can be unpredictable and may return after treatment.
- Several sessions are normal, and spacing is usually weekly to monthly depending on the goal.
- Aggressive use on darker skin carries a risk of uneven pigment, so settings must be chosen carefully.
What a Spectra session means for your travel days
Toning-style visits are short, leave little to see, and could fit into a lunch break. They also tend to be most useful as a series, which may not fit a short stay.
For tattoo removal, plan the first session early and expect several days of crusting. Skip beach or pool plans, and ask how the clinic suggests continuing from abroad.
Spectra: common questions
Is it the same as the carbon peel?
The same machine may be used for a carbon-based peel, but the protocol and effect differ. Ask what is planned.
Can it treat freckles?
Some freckles respond to lasers, though results and recurrence vary. A doctor can assess them.
Will pigment return?
It can, especially with sun exposure or hormonal influences. Sun protection matters.
