miraDry
miraDry uses microwave energy to reduce underarm sweat glands; here is how recovery fits a Seoul trip.
How it works
miraDry uses microwave thermolysis. A handpiece placed against the underarm skin delivers microwave energy that heats the layer where sweat glands sit, while cooling protects the skin surface. The glands that are heated do not regrow in the same way, so the effect on sweating can be long-lasting for many people, though results vary. Local anesthesia is injected beforehand.
Good to know
- Swelling, tenderness, and bruising in the underarm area are common for several days to a couple of weeks.
- Arm movement may feel restricted at first, and some people notice temporary numbness.
- Sweat reduction is variable, and one or two sessions may be advised.
- Underarm hair in the treated zone may be reduced as well.
What a miraDry session means for your travel days
Carrying luggage, reaching overhead, and long flights with tender underarms are not comfortable. Treat early in a longer trip, not just before departure.
Pack loose, light tops, and keep sporty sightseeing, such as hiking with a pack, for the end of your recovery. Ask the doctor about cold packs and activity limits.
miraDry: common questions
Can I fly soon afterward?
Swelling and soreness can make long flights unpleasant. Leave a good gap and ask the doctor.
Is the effect lasting?
Many people have lasting reduction, but sweating may not stop completely and results vary.
Is it the same as botulinum toxin for sweating?
No. Toxin is temporary and needs repeat injections, while miraDry targets the glands themselves.
