Unwanted Hair

Unwanted hair can be handled by shaving, waxing, threading or laser reduction. Lasers lower growth over several sessions, yet they depend on hair color, skin tone and timing. A visit to Seoul is a chance to start, not usually to finish.

Common causes

  • Genetics and ethnic background
  • Hormonal conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Certain medicines
  • Normal hair growth patterns on the body and face
  • Ingrown hairs after shaving or waxing

How doctors usually approach it

Check the cause
Sudden or heavy growth may need a medical evaluation.
Match laser to hair and skin
Dark hair on lighter skin responds most reliably, while pale hair responds poorly and tanned skin raises risk.
Plan a series
Sessions are often spaced several weeks apart, because only growing hairs are affected.
Use temporary methods in between
Shaving is preferred, while waxing and plucking interfere with the treatment.

Treating unwanted hair on a short stay in Seoul

The key limit is time. A few days allows one session, which produces some thinning but usually not the full effect. If you want to continue elsewhere, record the device, settings and areas treated.

Sun and travel clash with laser. Beach days before arrival or long outdoor sightseeing after treatment raise the chance of skin color changes, so arrive without a fresh tan and cover treated skin afterwards.

Small areas such as underarms or upper lip are practical for a first session. Large areas take longer to assess and may be better saved for a visit with more time.

Medical causes deserve a mention. Heavy new growth on the face or body, especially with irregular periods or other changes, calls for a physician rather than only a laser plan. For a short stay, a patch test on a small area is a reasonable way to see how your skin responds before committing to larger zones.

Unwanted Hair: common questions

Will hair stop growing completely?

Hair is usually reduced and finer, though some may remain or return.

Can I wax between sessions?

No, shaving is usually advised.

Does it work on light hair?

Poorly. Ask about alternatives.

Is it safe in summer?

It can be if you avoid sun on treated skin.
