Fotona 4D

Fotona 4D is a laser protocol in several stages that combines Nd:YAG and Er:YAG wavelengths; here is how it relates to travel timing.

How it works

Fotona 4D is a protocol performed with devices from Fotona that combine Nd:YAG (1064 nm) and Er:YAG (2940 nm) laser wavelengths. It is delivered in stages with different handpieces, which may target the inside of the mouth, the deeper tissue, and the skin surface. Er:YAG is absorbed strongly by water at the surface, while Nd:YAG reaches deeper. The mix of steps is chosen by the practitioner for the goal at hand.

Good to know

  • The same platform is also used for fractional surface work, which has more downtime than a gentle lifting protocol.
  • A visit can include several stages, so it takes longer than a single-handpiece treatment.
  • Warmth is common; some stages are more noticeable than others.
  • Plans often involve several sessions, and results vary by person.

What a Fotona 4D session means for your travel days

The lifting-style protocol usually has little visible downtime, but the visit is longer. Give it a half-day and keep the evening flexible.

Check whether your doctor plans the lifting protocol or surface resurfacing, because the recovery for those two differs a lot. Surface work needs far more space before a flight.

Fotona 4D: common questions

Does 4D mean four visits?

No. It refers to the layered approach in a single session. Total visits depend on the plan.

Is there peeling?

Gentle protocols often have little. Resurfacing modes can cause peeling, so confirm which one is planned.

Can I wear a mask on the plane?

Usually fine, but ask about any tenderness inside the mouth if that stage is used.
